True Parrot Cichlid
Remarks: True parrot cichlids (Hoplarchus psittacus) are extremely beautiful, showing emerald-green coloration with dark bands and bright red eyes. They are found in blackwater streams in Colombia and Brazil. They will live in a large tank with other big South American cichlids, such as severums, chocolate cichlids, and Geophagus. Because of their size, we recommend at least a 90 gallon for a single fish or pair, and a 125 gallon for more fish. While we see where these fish are labeled semi-aggressive online, we find them to be quite aggressive towards each other at our facility.
