Slender Buffalo Head Cichlid
Remarks: Slender Buffalo Heads (Steatocranus tinanti) are smaller and more elongate compared to their popular cousins, S. casuarius. Males reach close to 6", while females typically stop growing around 4". Like the goby cichlids of Lake Tanganyika, they have a reduced swim bladder and modified pelvic fins that allow them to scoot along the substrate and hold on during periods of high flow in their native Congo River. They appreciate rock piles that form nooks and crannies, which males will vigorously protect. When pairs are formed, both fish help in rearing fry.
