Emperor Tetra
Remarks: Emperor tetras (Nematobrycon palmeri) can be a great community fish due to their medium size, stunning colors, and sexual dimorphism. Both genders have silver bodies and a thick black band in their lower half and a thick black stripe in the center of their caudal fin. Males turn a slight purple color and gain an iridescence along their body that shines in a rainbow of colors as the light bounces off. The anal, dorsal, and caudal fins in males have extensions as well as orange trim on the edges. Sometimes sparring among males can get violent so when keeping multiple males in one tank, provide plenty of breaks in the line of sight through the use of live plants or other decor and to spread out aggression by keeping them in groups of 8 or more. Emperor tetras also tend to be very active for their size so it is best to keep them in tank 40 gallons or larger.
